Richa Mehta and Debashish Kalita tie the knot In a Private Ceremony

On September 12, 2024, Richa Mehta, a well-known model and actor, wed Debashish Kalita in a small, private wedding at The Roseate in New Delhi.

The couple started a new trend in wedding planning by choosing a meaningful and close-knit celebration over beauty and focusing love, family, and personal connection.

Only close family members attended the lovely wedding, which allowed Richa and Debashish to concentrate on what was most important: their relationship and the people who were closest to them. The ceremony was the ideal combination of emotional moments and custom.

The moment Richa entered the room carrying a priceless picture of her late father in honor of his memory on this momentous day was one of the most moving scenes. Her brother was leading her, which deepened the day’s emotional content. The ancient Milni ceremony, a lovely ring and garland exchange on the stunning lake deck, and the holy Pheras were significant parts of the wedding. Indoor performances marked the evening’s conclusion, and Richa performed a unique dance that brought a happy and intimate touch to the festivities.

Richa said, “Our wedding served as a reminder of what really matters in life: love, family, and creating a future together.” Our pledges to one another are what matter, not how elaborate the celebration is. I’m eager to begin this new chapter with Debashish, concentrating on our relationship and the principles we hold dear.”

Richa and her partner are an intercaste couple with a six-year age difference, but their love story demonstrates that love has no bounds.

Their marriage is proof that embracing what really matters in a partnership is possible, and their love breaks stereotypes.

The couple made the admirable decision to celebrate in secret, without the presence of influencers or celebrities, and to concentrate only on their family. Using the hashtag #DEBGOTRICH, they surprised fans and followers with their journey when they published their first post together as a married couple on September 12th.

Richa, with her successful modeling and acting career, has captivated many with her charm, while Debashish, who works at Ernst & Young, is known for his professional achievements and love for sports. Together, they’ve shown that weddings don’t need to be lavish; they need to be meaningful.

This intimate celebration also serves as a reminder of the importance of mental well-being, especially amidst the pressure often associated with weddings. Richa and Debashish’s wedding highlights that the true essence of a wedding lies in the love shared between the couple and their closest loved ones.

Engagement

The engagement ceremony is quite different in Kumaoni marriages. In this wedding, the dads of the couple exchange rings, as compared to other weddings where the bride and groom do so. The beautiful conjugal ceremonies traditionally start with the Kumaoni marriage customs.

Mehendi

The Mehendi ceremony is held after the engagement. Henna is used to design on the hands and feet of the bride during this occasion. The bride receives beautiful henna designs on her hands, arms, and feet, while the husband receives basic designs applied to his hands. There is a myth that a husband will be more loving if his henna is darker.

Mahila Sangeet in Kumaoni Wedding

In Kumaon marriages, “Mahila Sangeet” honors ladies with music and dance, showing cultural diversity and delight. The ladies sangeet is a pre-wedding ritual in which women sing traditional songs. This colorful tradition brings together family and friends to honor bride with songs. The bride also gives the special performance along with family members and enjoys their special day.

Haldi

The Haldi ritual takes place the next morning. Haldi, or turmeric paste, is applied to the bride and groom’s faces, arms, and legs using a few branches of grass. Both families celebrate this ceremony with laughter, dance, music, and joy. It is an excellent ritual that is carried out with tremendous favorite activity.

Kumaoni Marriage Rituals

According to Hindu customs, the bride and groom are respected throughout the wedding ceremony as being the personal representatives of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Parvati.

Ganesha Puja

Lord Ganesha, the one who eliminates barriers, is prayed to before any important occasion, particularly a wedding. This ensures a smooth and trouble-free start to the occasion. A Ganesh Puja is usually performed before a wedding to receive blessings for a trouble-free ceremony, as marriages are important and beautiful life events.

Suwal Pathai

Suwal Pathai is a unique ceremony performed during Kumaoni weddings in which wheat flour is kneaded into dough, rolled into thin circles, dusted with flour, sun-dried, deep-fried, and served as Prasada to the gods.

Duliagarh

In the tradition of Duliagarh, the groom is worshipped as Lord Vishnu. The priest and the father of the bride give the groom “pithya,” or sweets, and wash his feet. After the groom’s procession, or “baraat,” arrives at the wedding location, this ceremony usually lasts for around thirty minutes.

Varmaala

Varmaala, also known as the garland exchange ceremony, happens right after the groom’s procession, Duliagarh. Once the groom takes his seat on the stage, the bride joins him along with their close family and friends. The couple exchanges Jai Mala garlands amidst cheers, applause, and lighthearted jokes from the crowd.

Photo Session and Delicious Dinner

The couple exchanges garlands and then smiles for happy family and friend photos. Visitors bless them and congratulate them. After taking pictures, everyone has dinner together. After enjoying mouthwatering food, people hit the dance floor to celebrate. The couple cherishes this wonderful moment together by sharing an enjoyable meal with close ones after dinner and dancing.

Holly Rituals And Kanya Daan

After the social formalities, the priest takes command and performs sacred ceremonies that correspond with the placements of the stars (or “lagna”) based on the bride and groom’s horoscopes. The bride’s parents, who fast for this occasion, lead the moving “Kanya Daan” during the ritual, which lasts the entire night. Respected as the ultimate gift, this ritual represents the bride’s assimilation into the groom’s family as his lifetime partner.

Saptapadi

The bride and groom signify their devotion to one another by circling the holy fire seven times throughout this ritual. The bride completes three circles, signifying their union, after the husband leads and circles four times. After finishing, they are pronounced husband and wife.

Vidai

At last, the bride’s family says a heartfelt goodbye to their cherished daughter at the Vidai ceremony. For the bride, her family, and friends, it’s a moving occasion as she leaves her parent’s house to begin a new life with her spouse.

Summary

Kumaon weddings are known for their distinct blend of tradition, culture, and gorgeous Himalayan scenery. glasses wearing bride

Beauty Tips for brides wearing glasses

Being a bride is a tedious task that we all know but things get even more difficult and complicated when the bride wears glasses. She has more stress and considerations going on in her mind. Even though many prefer wearing contact lenses but not everyone feels comfortable having them in their eyes and sitting with them throughout the wedding ceremony! There are also many brides who get a new pair of spectacles just for their wedding as they shop for their clothing and jewelry items. And why not? After all, it’s your day and you can pick what you want to make you look even more beautiful on that day. It’s all about defining your beauty for the most significant day of your life! You should look for the glitziest glasses and frames that go well with your attire.

But if you are planning to ditch the lenses and go on with your regular eyewear i.e. glasses at your wedding, you need to prepare yourself for every challenge that you will face while you’re getting ready! Glasses make a fabulous style statement ensuring that you don’t stumble walking down the aisle. If they’re part of your everyday look and you want to have them into your bridal look make sure they stand out. However, there are several things that you need to remember and take note of if you’re pondering about wearing eyeglasses on your D-day. From the way, you style your hair to how you do your skincare, and your makeup, there are so many things to consider when planning to get ready for your wedding day regime.

MAKE YOUR GLASSES A FEATURE

Your wedding day is going to be the most memorable day of your life, so it’s okay to overdo a little for yourself if needed. Consider getting a pair of new eyeglasses that will perfectly match your wedding dress. If you want to make your glasses an exclusive element of your wedding day ensemble, go for a simple yet classic, sleek, and sophisticated pair. Buying new eyeglasses is also great because you can wear them even after the wedding day.

You can also make your pair of eyeglasses the focus of your look. Whether it’s bold-colored frames or decorative lenses, your glasses can always become the highlight of your look on the wedding day. Meanwhile, if you are a classic bride, getting eyeglasses with a simple design and light color tone can be really glamorous.

Prep your eyelids

Your makeup artist is an expert and knows how to do it but you should also have an understanding of how to prep your eyelids with a primer to keep the makeup. Primer ensures that your shadow stays in its place and blocks any creasing or fading. It’s all about using the advantage of its amazing staying power. You should also get some creamy concealer as a water-resistant option and finish off your face with a powder beneath your eyes so that products don’t fade. While you’re wearing glasses, there’s heat amidst your glasses and skin which can lead to melting the under-eye makeup. Therefore, make sure to use the setting powder which will act as a barrier between skin and glasses.

Don’t Forget – Contour and conceal

When you are wearing your glasses, your complexion looks more highlighted, you want to look flawless. It starts with basic skincare leading to the beauty regimen for your big day, and then make up with a mouse or matte foundation, expert contouring, and a bit of highlighting. Specs leave shadows under the eyes, so make sure you add enough concealer in a light formula. It will help you hide under your eyes and dark circles.

Test for eye shadow colors

The color and style of your eye shadow application play a great role in improving your overall bridal look! Whether you are wearing glasses or not, you need to make sure that your eyes stand out even if they are behind the frames. If you want to go for a subtle and natural look, light brown and pink should be a great choice!

If you’re thinking of getting eyelash extensions, go for short, individual add-ons. These will be great as they will give you a fuller look without bumping in your glasses otherwise making you uncomfortable every time you blink. Try to skip dark shadow, even in an ombre effect! This will not darken the eyes as well as create circles under the eye. Remember that glasses can hide eye shadow details; therefore you can try the pop of color or go for a dramatic smoky eye to enhance some definition.

Remember to be you

Many brides are attracted to the idea of contact lenses. Try staying away from the makeup artist who pushes you to get lenses if they are not very comfortable for you! Usually, all the brides want to be and look at themselves, especially on their wedding day, but in a better way. If you regularly wear glasses every day does not compromise with them on the wedding day. Also, if you’re not used to wearing contacts, don’t push yourself! You can upgrade your frames for a special occasion pair that makes it special! Any professional makeup artist can create a look with your glasses rather than the mentality of working around them or asking you to get contact lenses.

Go for complimenting colors

If you are wearing a white wedding dress on your big day, go for a neutral-hued frame for the eyeglasses. They won’t overpower your gown or create a contrasting look that may end up very much awkward. Frames designed with a metallic finish either in gold or silver are also excellent because they add sophistication and glamor to your outfit.

Whatever kind of look you choose, it’s always important to go with an experienced hair and makeup artist who is competent enough to work with brides who can’t leave their glasses and also support your decision not to opt for contacts, if you choose. Always carry your glasses during your hair and makeup trial, so that you can know what goes into the look and you’ll look your best.

Mangalsnaanam:

Also known as purging bath, this South Indian culture takes place early in the morning. It usually takes place on the wedding day, but if the family wants, they can complete this ritual the day before the wedding. As understood from the name, this ritual talks about a holy bath. Here, a mixture is made using turmeric and pure oil and then slathered to the groom and bride’s body. Later, they will take a shower. The scientific reason behind this ritual is to help the couples get rid of harmful bacteria. Turmeric is known for its antibacterial properties and will keep infections at bay!

Kashiyatra:

Another one of the exciting rituals of the South Indian wedding, Kashiyatra, takes place on the wedding day. Here, the groom acts to leave for Kashi (India’s holy site) as he doesn’t want to marry. So, he leaves the venue with an umbrella, a walking stick, and some other necessities for completing the journey. Well, this story has an interesting turn of events! While on his path, the groom is stopped by the bride’s father, who asks him not to leave the place as his daughter is waiting to get married. After multiple appealing sessions, the groom goes back to his house to get ready and take his bride by exchanging garland, also called “maalaimaatral.”

Maalai Maatral:

This tradition of garland exchange is an age-old tradition seen in every Indian tradition. Whether you reside in South India or belongs to a North Indian city, this tradition is pretty common.

Even though it is a pretty uncommon sight, but it is the biggest sacrifice that a dad can make! Here, the father offers his daughter’s hand to the groom (Lord Vishnu) while milk and sacred water are poured and shlokas recited at the same time.

MangalyaDharanam:

This is the most precious moment of the entire wedding everyone has been waiting for! Here, the groom carefully tied the mangal sutra or the thali around the bride’s neck in front of everyone. It is one way of tying two souls into one. The exciting vibe is all around the couple, who enters the new life of togetherness.
