The excitement for the wedding celebration was understandable. Mukesh Ambani, The chairman of the reliance industry, hosted Hastakshar for both, his son and daughter-in-law. At the same place where Radhika performed.
Later they held a grand party for the couple in London and booked a cruise ship. Also, People were curious about the wedding ceremony, If the pre-wedding is so grand then what about the wedding?
Radhika Merchant’s words
Said Radhika Merchant, “The wedding weekend was perfectly planned and started from 12th to 14th of July as per our family pandit. he decided the dates for our celebrations based on both astrological charts.”
The Wedding Managed by Nita Ambani
The wedding planning was managed by Nita Ambani along with her daughter Isha Ambani, and daughter-in-law Shloka Ambani.
As stated by Radhika Merchant “My Mother in Law was the C.E.O of the wedding. I like to say that, it was her commitment and vision that our wedding becomes the great celebration.”
The family has many wedding planners, and internal staff, who are engaged in wedding organization 24/7. It is based on multi-week affairs.
5th of July – Pre-wedding celebrations begin
The pre-wedding celebrations start on July 5th with a sangeet, where both bride, groom, and their families dance on stages for the couple.
Also, the bride Radhika Merchant performed in her beautiful crystal outfit designed by ‘Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’. Started by Radhika Merchant “I wanted to make a lasting Impression”.
Moreover, Anant Ambani also dressed up in a look which is designed by the same designer ‘Khosla’. it is completed with ruby diamond buttons by Kantilal Chhotalal.
He wore a cheetah brooch which denotes his 3000-acre animal rescue sanctuary vantara in Gujrat. He is a great animal lover.
His love for animals occurred since his childhood when he was only years old. Stated in an interview with her mother Anita Ambani.
Also, His sister Isha Ambani wore, a Schiaparelli saree: this was the first piece from a French haute couture house.
Mehendi Ceremony
As the grand party started late, then Justin Bieber received the stage for a private concert. At the same time, Radhika Merchant changed into a metal mesh saree designed by Manish Malhotra.
It was along with the corset that added the modern twist. Radhika stated that “the saree was quite heavy but it was worth every moment”.
For a few days, the couple attended many poojas and and also mehendi ceremony. The bride and her guests get their hands and feet designed by the henna.
11th July- Haldi Ceremony
After that on July 11, they celebrated the haldi ceremony, in which a soon-to-be married couple covered with turmeric paste. The purpose of applying turmeric to the body is to save the couple from all the evils. It believes that they might curse their marriage.
On 12th of July – Baraat
In the baraat arrived at the Jio World convention. There were musical performers and hundreds of dancers gave performances as Anant Ambani arrived on horseback.
Designer Gurung, stated “it was out of this world, I’ve never seen anything like this,”. He was one of over 2000 guests who attended the ceremony along with Tony Blair, Nick Jonas, and Priyanka Chopra.
The baraat says that “the whole room was filled with flowers and Bollywood celebrities.” all were dancing and singing.
The flowers were arranged by the event planner ‘Preston Bailey, who made over 60 floral sculptures. Which is created with Indian flowers that include monkeys, elephants, and tigers.
He assumed that each sculpture to made up of around 100,000 flowers. Bailey added, “It takes many sleepless nights. Inthe evening people lined up to take photos in front of sculptures.”
On Wedding Day
After a short rest, It was a wedding time. The Hindu ceremony started with the traditional Jaimala rasam. Where Anant and Radhika exchanged garland which means they both accept each other.
The Kanyadaan is the official moment where the bride’s parents give blessings to the groom to marry their daughter.
Then comes to the phera rasam which is known as the actual wedding ceremony. The bride and the groom circumambulations around a ritual fire. Radhika stated that “somber yet mesmerizing”.
“Each vow includes promises of love, fidelity, prosperity, and mutual respect. It creates a foundation for our married life,” adds the bride.
The sindoor daan and mangal sutra rites followed. Anant applied vermillion to Radhika’s hair and tied a mangal sutra, or sacred necklace, around her neck.
“This can be compared to the exchange of rings in a Western wedding,” Radhika says. “The ceremony concluded with the aashirwad, where we got blessings from our elders, ensuring their good wishes for our future.”
Radhika wore a uniquely designed collection by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in red and white. To honor the Gujarati ritual of panetar.
Her ghagra was embroidered with delicate flower designs, precious stones, and glitter. Her head was covered in a six-foot veil with a beautiful jaali pattern and cutwork. (“My veil was a true Zardozi marvel,” Radhika says, using the cultural term for gold thread embroidery.)
She wore a multi-bright green ranihaar, sometimes known as a bridal necklace. Radhika says that the necklace is a family relic.
“I wore the same necklace. My sister and aunts wore it at their weddings, and I truly believe it gave me a special strength and blessing,” she says. Meanwhile, the groom wore Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.
Bidaai
In Indian marriages, the bidaai or farewell ritual for the bride, when she leaves her family house to settle into her marital home.
“It’s considered a sad and emotional moment that marks the start of the bride’s new life as a wife and the end of her role as a daughter,” Radhika says.
She wore a unique red-and-gold lehenga by Manish Malhotra, which included a top from the Indian house’s archive that was over a century old.
The bride also says that her trousseau was a lifetime in the making: “There are looks dresses, and jewelry, which I have planned for with my mom and sister since I was a little girl; I haven’t paid much attention to trends,” she stated.
Saraswati Pooja
On Saturday, the Ambanis performed a puja for the goddess Saraswati. “For this day I wore my favorite outfit of the whole wedding—a ghagra painted by one of my favorite artists, Jayshree Burman in collaboration with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla,” Radhika says.
“Burman carefully painted an entire world within my ghagra with Lakshmi and Vishnu at the center,” The religious event also received a lot of international media interest because India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended.
Mangal Utsav or Wedding Reception
Sunday was the Mangal Utsav, the couple’s wedding reception, which was attended by over 14,000 people.
Radhika chose a gold diamond necklace by Dolce & Gabbana and an Anamika Khanna-designed saree to finish off her wedding weekend. Now that it’s all over, Radhika says she feels an “overwhelming sense of fulfillment.”
“We’ve been friends and supporters with one another for so long, and now we are finally embarking upon our official journey as a married couple,” she says on her engagement to Anant. “I can’t wait to see what our shared life has in store.”
